How to Feel About Roy Lichtenstein

As a younger man, I really loved the style of modernist painter Roy Lichtenstein. His, bold graphic style, use of Ben-Day dots, and flat colors inspired by comic books made for kids really interested me. His work was at once loud, retro, kitchy, and just fun to look at. I had a couple of prints of his works framed. They hung on my wall for years. Then, I came across some history that none of the art books I had ever covered: what happened to the unattributed artists whose work he cribbed? Their art form was considered so low that Lichtenstein never felt obliged to credit them, nor was his audience ever much inclined to care who they were. This comic by Russ Health feels like a gut punch. How should we feel about Roy Lichtenstein now?
